OT Takes A Village is a mobile service offering Occupational Therapy support for children 0-12 years old in their natural environments, following the Early Childhood Intervention Australia Best Practice Guidelines. Support can be provided in a variety of settings including at home, in the community, at school, preschool, or daycare in the Newcastle region.

At the first appointment, your Occupational Therapist will meet with you to gather information and find out what’s most important to you and your child to set goals for therapy. Parents and caregivers are actively involved in sessions to support the use of strategies at home and in the community.

OT Takes A Village can see children through their self managed or plan managed NDIS plans. Charges as per current NDIS guidelines of $193.99 per hour for Occupational Therapist supports. Travel costs vary depending on location. Please contact directly for travel cost quotes.

Child exploring sensory play

Areas of Practice

Our Occupational Therapist delivers therapy support for children to assist in the development of functional skills in everyday tasks including:

Fine motor skills - pencil skills (colouring, drawing, handwriting), dressing, feeding, and cutting with scissors.

Gross motor skills - sitting at a table, running, jumping, and throwing a ball.

Play skills - a child’s ability to plan what they want to do during play, try new activities, solve problems as they come up, and use what they've learned with different toys or games.

Self care skills - getting dressed, going to the toilet, tying shoelaces, doing up buttons, and using a knife and fork at mealtimes.

Social skills - play and interaction skills, making and keeping friendships, understanding social rules like taking turns and reading social cues.

Sensory processing - children with sensory processing differences may be extra sensitive to loud noises or certain clothes, seek out lots of movement or touch, or find it difficult to stay calm and settled.

Emotional regulation - helping children to learn to recognise and understand emotions, build resilience and regulation skills.
